The UI Society of American Foresters is a SAF affiliated club that promotes professional skills and relationships through events, classwork, fundraisers, and work experience for anyone interested in forestry. We aim to make our members more interested and confident in the field. Our meetings are held bi-weekly on campus to promote higher attendance.
Events that we look forward to in the future are the SAF National Conference in the fall and a logging conference event in the spring. These events bring professional connections, informational sessions, and great group bonding. UI SAF and SAFE clubs also partner to make a chainsaw certification class available to the clubs once a school year. Finally, we promote university speaker events and even have our own speakers come to interact with the club. To make these events happen and have some fun, we have had a few fundraising events over the past few semesters. We have had shirt sales, sticker sales, cornhole raffles, water bottle raffles, and wreath making fundraisers. The club is also looking forward to more volunteer work with the Palouse Clearwater Environmental Institute and the UI Sustainability Center. Overall, we want to build more of a community within the student forestry department while boosting professional development.
